Welcome to Dovecot college of Nursing (DCN), the college for the nurse of tomorrow. We at DCN are moving quickly to meet the health care needs of our country and the region, come and be part of us. Zambia, like many other countries in the southern hemisphere, has been critically hit by shortage of nurses and midwives. Currently Zambia has only 8,369 nurses and midwives out of the recommended establishment of 22, 32 (Ministry of Health 2006). Recognising the crucial contribution nurses and midwives make to the health care delivery systems and the communities they serve, we at DCN felt compelled to be part of our Ministry of Health strategic plan (2006-2010) which aims at scaling up the production of nurses and midwives in Zambia.
DCN has been established in line with the General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNC) Nurses and Midwives Act which provides for the establishment of private Nursing Colleges for the training of nurses and midwives in Zambia. The college has recruited high level and competent academicians in the areas of their specialty in order to execute this programme, and to provide the much needed guidance to students and staff in the practicum areas where students will go for practice. The reason why you should choose to study at DCN.
